The Liebster Awards were created to promote blogs with relatively small audiences or those that deserve to be discovered by a wider public. The principle is quite simple:
You receive a “Liebster Award” tag from a blogger who has already participated in this chain.
You share 11 anecdotes/facts about yourself.
You answer the 11 questions you were asked.
You ask 11 questions in turn.
Finally, you send a “Liebster Award” tag to a blogger who has fewer than 200 subscribers and whom you want to promote.
You inform the person who nominated you that you have completed your task.
I was nominated by Alice from the blog lecoussindusinge, who asked me 11 questions that I will answer below. This blogger was the first sewing blogger to follow my blog. I felt very encouraged. I really like what she sews—simple and very beautifully finished. Next, you will see the questions I’m asking Amandine from the blog fleurdecarotte. I discovered Amandine’s blog while browsing other sewing blogs. I think she is talented and is a fan of RDC patterns!
>>> Without further ado, here are 11 anecdotes/facts about me:
1. I love fashion. But what I love most about fashion is imagining, combining, and creating associations of styles and colors. For me, sewing goes beyond the simple creativity found in fashion and touches the very essence of creation.
2. Since I started sewing, I’ve become very picky about clothes (so I’m saving money). But it’s often a struggle because there are times when I just want to buy a ready-made garment.
3. As for my personality/character, I am cheerful and extroverted. If you ever see me with a face like this >_<, there are two options: I’m either tired or I’m hungry.
4. I am not a morning person at all—and I mean NOT AT ALL. Every morning is a battle, regardless of what time I went to bed the night before.
5. I don’t have a favorite dish. I grew up all over the place, and my parents always taught my brother and me to always eat what was served to us. As a result, I eat everything and I like everything.
6. My favorite place to wander when I’m traveling is the markets. They are true hubs of life—places where colors, flavors, and humanity all mix together.
7. I studied Communication and Sociology.
8. I have a job that I like and that suits me, but I often wonder if I should make a living from my passion for textile creation. If so, in what form?
9. I come from a family of artists, each with a different craft. It’s wonderful!
10. I place a lot of importance on human beings because I find them to be the most precious creature God created. I firmly believe in God.
11. Almost every weekend, I try a new pastry. For now, the best-sellers are Carrot cake and Cheesecake.
>>> Here I answer the 11 questions from Alice of the blog lecoussindusinge:
1. How long have you been sewing? And how did your desire to sew begin?
I’ve been sewing since September 2011. My desire to sew was born partly from my passion for creation and fashion. I’m always looking for simple and original clothes. I used to find those clothes for sale from designers. I bought them very often until the day I said to myself, “No! If I get serious, I can make these same clothes myself.” On the other hand, this period coincided with a time when I was terribly bored in my old job. I didn’t really have any challenges to meet anymore; I even felt like I was unlearning things. This didn’t suit me mentally or morally. I was thirsty for learning, thirsty for challenges. Sewing came to boost me in that regard, giving me that spark I needed.
2. Have you taken any classes? How did you learn?
No, I haven’t taken any classes; I mainly used YouTube and Google. I used the phone to call my friend Anna if I had a question. I also scrupulously examined my clothes to understand how the pieces were assembled.
3. What are your favorite fabrics, prints, and materials?
Let’s say I like cotton because it’s easy and comfortable to work with. As for prints, it really depends
on the pattern and the season. I know that right now I’m pro-floral prints for blazers and/or jackets. I also love Wax (African print fabric) which reminds me so much of my origins, my grandparents, my aunts… My mother.
4. Which pattern did you enjoy making the most?
Joker—off the top of my head, I wouldn’t really know how to answer that. :-/
5. What are your inspirations? What is your style?
I was asking myself that very question yesterday! I like a bit of a retro-chic style—chic, simple, and clean. I’m very inspired by Inna Modja’s style; otherwise, Pinterest remains my ultimate hunting ground.
6. Do you like wearing what you make? Does it fit with the rest of your wardrobe?
I love it! Because no one else has it out there, and that’s just great. Plus, if I want a specific style or if I see a model in a store that doesn’t quite suit me… I just have to go sit at my machine and produce what I want. Today, my wardrobe is essentially made up of personal creations (if you want it, you can do it!)
7. How do your photo shoots go?
My photo shoots are crazy! I put pressure on the person shooting me because I’m anxious to get the photos right. Fortunately, I’m surrounded by people who have always supported me (you know who you are… sending you kisses💋). Normally, when I’m out walking, I take note of places or spots where I’d like to shoot, then we come back if possible to do the shoot. These are moments I love.
8. Why did you decide to start your blog?
To share my creations and follow those of others. To boost myself to sew without stopping, and to learn from others.
9. Are you more of an evening sewer or a morning sewer?
Me? Hahahaha! Sewing all the time! I can’t seem to stop. Fortunately, I have other activities that force me to stop every now and then.
10. What are your other interests?
I love spending time with others, even those I don’t know. I love cultural discovery, I love cooking and eating with friends. I love traveling.
11. What sewing technique would you like to acquire?
I would like to learn how to make buttonholes, and also—and most importantly—how to properly insert a jacket lining.
