It’s (finally!) starting to feel nice in the Paris region, and today I’m back to share a super simple sewing pattern—comfortable to wear this season and very practical. In fact, this project probably wouldn’t have happened without my collaboration with the Craftine box, a 100% sewing subscription box!

Something to delight most of us, right? I don’t know if you’ve ever subscribed to a box, but a few years ago I used to get MyLittleBox. It arrived regularly with little surprises inside. I remember that every time it came, I’d rush upstairs, throw myself on the sofa, and open my parcel with excitement and impatience—like a child opening presents on Christmas Day. Well, it’s a bit the same concept, except here it’s a creative treat, and purely sewing! So when I received my box for the first time and was about to open it, my big question was: “What on earth am I going to find inside?”

In my June box, I received fabric cuts, haberdashery items, and ideas for pairing patterns and fabrics. I also found a tea bag to help me “get comfy” while I sewed. Among the fabric cuts, there was a fairly raw linen, and another in a light cotton viscose that was incredibly, incredibly pleasant. I remember sitting for a long time just touching the fabric, holding it against my skin, wrapping it around my body. Such a lovely feel! Now all that was left was to mix it all together in my head and make something nice.
That something nice, I found at Burda: pattern #111 from 04/2016. A kimono coat with not-quite-kimono sleeves that had been catching my eye since it came out. I made it here without the front facing (my fabric was too light for that kind of piece).

This pattern is really easy and quick to sew, and it doesn’t require much fabric (here, 150 cm x 150 cm). Cut at knee length: I’d make a dressing gown. Cut mid-thigh: I’d wear it as a beach cover-up. Cut at hip length: a summer jacket like this one. Cut at waist length with sleeves shortened to the arms: a lovely airy top, with or without a camisole underneath. And you know what—if you love prints, pick one of these versions and pair it with a wax print… you’ll tell me all about it 😉

Summer is finally here even if it does doesn’t really feel like it in Paris. It’s getting warm and I am coming your way with this pattern ideal and functional for this season. When Craftine box knocked at my door with this box full of surprises I was excited and super curious to know what I was going to find in this 100% sewing box.

Those who have already subscribed to this kind of box perhaps know the kind of excitement I am talking about. That kind of feeling that makes you run from your mailbox to your room with only one idea: tearing your box open and discovering the suprises that are waiting for you inside. A bit like a child on Christmas day only that we are talking here about a 100% sewing surprise.

Among the different items I received in the box of June, I got 2 pieces of fabric, haberdashery items to go along with my fabric, a bag of tea. The fabric feels super comfy. I remember sitting for a few minutes with it on my arm and enjoying the feel. Now I just needed to think about a project.

My sewing project came right out of the Burdastyle mag issued in 04.2016. A Kimono light jacked with false Kimono sleeves. I made this jacket as simple as possible and did not add the front facing (this fabric is too light for that).

This kimono Jacket is simple and easy to make with a small piece of fabric (I’m using here a 150cmx150cm). If I had cut it at my knee level I would have made a robe, cut at the level of my hips like here, a jacket. Cut shorter at my waist level a little cute summer kimono top. And you know what try this short version with in an African print and this will be a hit for sure!

Summer is just around the corner.
