I had been looking for a coat pattern with a loose fit and large collars for quite some time, then one day while browsing burdastyle.com, I came across coat pattern 102 from the August 2010 Burda, which I immediately loved. So I dove into making this coat with complete commitment. <\/p>\n

Fabric choice:<\/strong> Blue wool fabric, 3m found at “au gentleman des tissus” on rue d’Orsel. I was really convinced that this fabric wouldn’t cause me any problems but to my great surprise it’s forming lots of bobbles!??!!! I’ve only been wearing this coat for 2 weeks but it’s as if I pulled it out from the back of a closet. However, apart from this pilling issue the fabric drapes perfectly well. The thickness, consistency and drape of the fabric suit me perfectly. <\/p>\n

Construction:<\/strong> Without reading the instructions everything was clear to me except for the so-called “Saddle” sleeves which I dreaded, particularly for the inner sleeve corner which, if done wrong, can form an ugly pleat. But it was OK. As you can see, I made a modification to the collar by actually excluding the collar. As a result I get a round neckline, which in my opinion adds more style and individuality to this coat. <\/p>\n

\nResult:<\/strong> I really love the Japanese-inspired shape of the sleeves. I’ll probably make this coat again in a camel color, a bit shorter and this time with the large collars from the original pattern AND A BETTER FABRIC! <\/p>\n

I have been looking for a specific pattern for a coat for a long while now. The criterias were the following: broad cut, lapel collar and blue. Then last month when surfing on burdastyle.com, I fell on pattern 102 of August 2010 Burdastyle magazine I knew that this is the pattern I was longing for. <\/p>\n

About the fabric:<\/strong> I found this wool fabric of 3 meters at “au gentleman des tissus” rue d’Orsel in Paris. I was very persuaded that this fabric would not cause me any problem but to my great surprise, once sewn and worn the wool started producing bobbles :-\/ (as you can see in the pictures). <\/p>\n

About the realization:<\/strong> Almost everything was clear in the explanations, except from the sleeves. Unless I have mistaken these particular sleeves are called Saddle sleeves. I was somehow afraid to assemble the back and the front as the curve could really worry me. If a mistake is made it can be so very obvious. But all went on OK. However as you can see a slight modification was made to the collar \ud83d\ude00 In fact after trying on the coat after the main pieces were assembled I found it kind of cool and trendy to not add the collar and just keep this round collar. It adds some style and a personal touch. <\/p>\n
