It’s 7:30 AM, and it’s raining cats and dogs. I’m looking out the window. It’s cold, it’s grey… I just don’t want to get out of bed. And yet, I have to. Yes, I must, because today is Thursday, and on Thursdays, not everything is allowed!

Then comes my daily existential question: “What am I going to wear today?” Today is a workday, and what’s more, a rainy day. Life is tough, tough, tough. That’s when my eyes fell on a little jacket that’s been hanging on the wall for a few days… “Oh!!” I exclaimed, “Bernadette! What am I saying? Forgive me. How could I have forgotten you? Life isn’t tough at all… I was looking for an occasion to take you out, and today is finally the day..”.
Suddenly, a wave of motivation hit me. I jumped out of bed with energy, like a child on Christmas Day, and for good reason: today I could finally wear and shoot my little “Bernadette for Liberty.” As my mother says: “It doesn’t take much to make you happy.”

“Bernadette for Liberty.” The first Bernadette I’ve made for myself (you can take a look at the Mpenzi Bernadette I sewed for Stéphanie). My Bernadette is made with a Liberty-style fabric bought at Les coupons de Saint Pierre (3 meters for 10 euros) in Montmartre. The pattern is the Bernadette jacket from République du Chiffon. No modifications were made to it except for lengthening the body by 2 cm. Initially, I had gone with a burgundy red piping (I even announced it in my previous post) and I was really convinced it would be top-notch, but honestly, it was a total fail in my opinion:

You can clearly see I’m not very convinced (lol). In any case, I quickly went out and bought some charcoal grey piping. Often, too much whimsy kills the whimsy. However, I want to make another light-colored Bernadette with a piping color that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the fabric. You know those kinds of combinations made of disparate colors that end up looking amazing. I think I have an idea, but I’m still refining it…
Regarding the quilting, I took great pleasure in doing it. I think I love the challenge of successfully making parallel lines with the same spacing (here 3.5 – 4 cm). See you in the next post to see if I got tired of quilting… lol!

*I’m wearing my Bernadette with my skirt version of the Elisalex dress (by Hand London)

Thanks for reading this article.

——————————————–

[ENGLISH]

Paris, July 10th, 2014. It’s 7:30 AM and it’s raining and pouring. A quick glance through the window. It’s cold and grey outside… I just don’t feel like getting up from bed. However I must get up. Especially as today is Thursday and Thursday is a working day.
Then comes my everyday question:”What should I wear today?” today working day, today rainy day. Life is too hard. My attention gets suddenly caught by a little jacket that has been hanging on the wall for a few days now:
“Oh!” I said. “Bernadette! What on earth did I just say? Please pardon me. How could I have forgotten you? Life is not at all hard hey! Look at me! I have been looking for an opportunity to take you out. Today is the D day…”
All of a sudden, I felt a huge motivation gain me. I jumped out of bed like a child on the day of Christmas, because I could finally wear and shoot my little “Bernadette for Liberty” today. The first Bernadette I am making for myself (look at the first one I made for Stephanie here). I made my version with a Liberty style fabric that i bought at Les coupons de Saint Pierre (3 meters for 10 euros) but not on the online store. This pattern is a République du Chiffon pattern. No modification made on this version except from adding 2 cm to the lenght of the body of the jacket. At the beginning I used a red piping and I was sure that it would turn out great ( I had even announced this in my previous post). But.. NO WAY:

You can see in the picture that I am not really happy of the result (lol). I quickly replaced it with a grey piping. I however want to make a light colored Bernadette, with a flashy piping that has nothing to do with the rest of the fabric. You know what I am talking about, the kind of fabrics that have nothing to with one another but once brought together, make a great match. I think I have an idea of what I want, but I have to think a little harder…
Regarding the quilting, I had a good time doing it. I think that I love the challenge linked to the fact of sewing straight parallel ligns with the same width (here 3,5 -4cm wide).
